Every Star Wars fan has at least once in their life quoted or made some joke about wishing they could control objects with the Force. That dream became a slight reality when Sphero released a BB-8 droid last year that could move around - all through a smartphone app. Now, you get to actually control BB-8 as if you were a Jedi (or Sith) with the release of the Force Band, a bracelet that dictates the moves of BB-8 with your hand movements.
What's the Force Band?
Are you wondering if you read that right? You did. Yes, Sphero actually topped itself and made the coolest Star Wars toy ever - again. With the Force Band, you can use "the Force" to push, pull, and control BB-8. You can make it roll across the room, move it to the right, and even beckon it back to you.
And that's just Droid Control mode. The device has five total modes: Droid Control, Force Training, Combat Training, Force Awareness, or Robot Control. The first controls BB-8. Force Training uses BB-8 to teach you certain moves to become a "Master Jedi Knight." In Combat Training mode, you can set certain sounds to your Force Band, like a lightsaber or TIE fighter, and have an imaginary battle or fight. With Force Awareness, you can collect "Holocrons" around you. Think of it is as Pokémon Go, except you don't need to keep the app open or do anything to get a Holocron.
Check out photos of both BB-8 and the Force Band ahead, as well GIFs of it in action. This won't be the last time you see it; it'll definitely be at the top of everyone's holiday wishlist this year.

Sphero’s BB-8 was arguably the compelling bit of merchandizing, which is, naturally, saying a lot. The latest Star Wars film was, as anticipated, a merch juggernaut, but there was no better bit of serendipity than a startup smartphone-controlled toy maker and the movie’s scene stealing droid. How does one go about improving up such a glorious bit of cross over marketing? Use the…
The Galaxy Note 7 seems like a pretty decent phone if you like phones literally the size of the galaxy (Brian does) — but be aware that Samsung’s curvy-screened flagship device may be prone to, well, exploding. Fear not, however: Samsung is looking into it.

Hello, fellow young people! I, like you, love vinyl. It offers richer, more realistic (pet) sounds and it is great for lugging from squat house to squat house and for sharing on a portable record player while you enjoy some fine beverages on the front stoop of your Williamsburg duplex. But how can you press your own music onto vinyl with a minimum of (hot) fuss? A Tokyo-based team has the answer.
If nothing else, Lenovo has certainly demonstrated that it’s not afraid to experiment with form factor. The company’s Yoga line has offered some of the most interesting takes we’ve seen on the tablet space. They been met with a varying degree of success, sure, but the company always seems game to try something a little different. The Yoga Book certainly offers one of the…
Last year’s Gear S2 was, without question, one of the best looking smartwatches around. After a few generations of unwieldy wearables, the company took it down a few notches with a device that was smaller and decidedly more minimalist. Where other companies have looked to bling it up, the electronics giant stayed subtle. Announced this week at IFA, the S3 isn’t that. The company…
The popular, Bluetooth-connected lost item finder Tile is today introducing a new product dubbed “Tile Slim” that’s designed to be kept in your wallet, so you can find it if it ever goes missing. The device – which the company claims is the world’s thinnest Bluetooth tracker – finally makes it possible to use Tile with not only your wallet without the bulk,…
Apple is about to announce the next iPhone on September 7, and the plot thickens. A new leak spotted by Nowhere Else shows the hypothetic packaging of the iPhone 7 Plus. This cardboard leak shows that Apple could sell the iPhone 7 with Lightning EarPods, replacing the good old EarPods with a headphone jack. More surprisingly, it also says that the iPhone 7 might come bundled with a Lightning…
For all the advances in smartphone photography, you sill don’t really have a DSLR-quality camera in your pocket when you’re carrying one (not yet anyway). DxO’s One, a tiny little box with a lens, a relatively large image sensor for its compact size and a Lightning connector changed all that last year, and now it’s getting a suite of accessories to bump up the value.…
Garmin has stopped trying. Meet the company’s new action camera: A clone of a GoPro. The company that innovated in the personal navigator space just announced the second generation of its action camera and it looks exactly like a GoPro.
